Posting Instructions for Artists

d/hr advent artist posting instructions

VIEW THE PDF OF THE POSTING INSTRUCTIONS W/ IMAGES HERE

STEP 1 - HOSTING THE IMAGE
There are many places to host or upload images. I use LJ's scrapbook since it's pretty reliable and I will ocasionally use imgur. Please do not use photobucket or tumblr since both are unreliable. Why not tumblr? Tumblr sometimes deletes old images (which is weird, I know) and I've run into problems with my images hosted there.

ON IMGUR:

  1. Log onto Imgur/create an account and then go to images under your account name. In the image below, I moused over my username and clicked on images.

  2. Click on the green add images button at the top right hand side of the page.

  3. Click on the image that you've uploaded. You will see a screen like the one below.

  4. Copy the DIRECT LINK and make sure to paste it or write it down somewhere where you can easily access it (maybe just paste it into a new browser tab)

ON LJ:
**LJ is super glitchy sometimes so I'd use imgur if you aren't familiar with LJ's problems and how to troubleshoot them

  1. Go to your LJ scrapbook (http://YOURUSERNAME.livejournal.com/photo/)

  2. Click Upload Photo - follow directions on the screen and make sure to set the security to public or else nobody can see it :)

  3. Go to where you’ve saved your image (mine is in an album so I clicked on the album) and then click on the image itself. If you can't find the image, check the Unsorted folder.

  4. Once you’ve gotten to the image itself, click on the up arrow at the bottom of the pop-up. It’s right next to the pencil at the bottom of the page. From there, you can copy the direct link like in the image below. Again, make sure you have access to the direct link for the next step.

STEP 2 - POSTING YOUR STORY

  1. Log on to AO3 and click on the post a new story link (http://archiveofourown.org/works/new).

  2. Fill out your title, summary, and notes. Make sure to include your prompt in the notes section. I’m not going to go into too much detail about posting to AO3 since we have an AO3 posting guide here: https://goo.gl/l0jipG and we have an faq here: https://goo.gl/Dhhdv4 (btw: our posting guide will also be re-done and posted as a brand-new pdf in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out for that!!)

  3. Make sure to post your work into the dhr_advent_2016 collection so it will be submitted into the 2016 Advent AO3 collection. This step is super important!!!

  4. Go to the work text and insert the html code in the textbox below and then paste the direct link that you’ve copied from the hosting website into the insert image link here spot.

    • If you want to include a link to a larger size of your image, read the notes below the last image to learn how to hyperlink your image

    • If you’d like to add some text below your art, go ahead and just type it in. After you are all done, go to the Rich Text editor (right next to HTML) and look over everything and make changes if necessary.

    Notes about image size:
I would suggest that you keep the art posted on AO3 to less than 1000 pixels wide but you can always link to a larger image.

Use the following HTML to hyperlink your image:

If you have any questions, just leave a comment!!!
